What we stand for

At the Wiregrass Wilderness Nursery, we believe that gardening is at its best when we work with nature instead of trying to control it.

In the spirit of gardening with nature, we specialize in plants native to the Southeastern United States-- when properly sited, plants native to our region just do more, better. Native plants beautify our surroundings and foster delicate, beautiful ecosystem functions-- all while requiring less maintenance than exotic species! We also carry rare plant species and varieties that perform well in the Southeast.

Why do we love native plants?
Let us count the ways

They're easy to grow

When properly sited and established, many native plants can fend for themselves. Native plant gardeners have more time to play in the garden instead of fighting off pests and disease!

They inspire conversation

Native plants stand out from the so-so crowd of common exotic perennials. From the beautiful billowing blooms of Phlox to the crazy inflorescence of Monarda, there's always a native plant ready to steal the spotlight!

They enrich local ecology

Native plants are much better at supporting local fauna than exotic ornamentals. Get ready to see more bees, birds, an butterflies than ever before!

Hours

Because we're such a small nursery, we've optimized our hours-- we're only open when most people want to go plant shopping! The nursery is open on Fridays and Saturdays April through May. If you want to visit the nursery outside of these times, you'll need to book an appointment.
